A village founded as a son's tribute
Quaker farmer James Mendenhall settled what's now Jamestown in 1752 after arriving from Pennsylvania; his son George formally founded the village in 1816, naming it in his father's honor. The town wasn't incorporated until April 1947 — more than a century later.
